Hi Everyone, in this week's video, I will be following up on our last video and talk about the area of your lot and why we need to be mindful of "Lot Coverage". For those of you looking to build a backyard suite, a garage, a new house, or a large tool shed, this is a video for you to watch.

The land-use bylaws referenced are required by the City of Calgary. Therefore, those of you living in other areas outside of Calgary, please check with your local municipality for bylaws applicable to your project.

Highlights from this video:

• Check the zoning of your property, make sure you are ok to build your backyard suite.

• Double-check the overall width of your property, that determines your maximum lot coverage percentage.

• Remember, to add the areas of ALL the buildings on your property that have dimensions over 10'-6'" x 10'-6".

• The area of the main house is the main floor. For lot coverage, you are establishing the building's footprint.
